This item is Uzbek hand embroidered in silk robe Chapan. The needle workers applied all their skills and vivid imagination while making this item. It takes quite long time to make such a beautiful robe. There is a little amount of empty space on the field. The silk patterns consist of the repeated floral motifs, as elvish stylized rich flowers with curved stems and leaves, which are very typical for Bukhara design. The foundation of embroidery is natural cotton velvet fabric. The dress is lined with a printed cotton. You need to see this “Chapan” robe in real life to appreciate the rich texture of the silk embroidery. Since ancient times one of the most important articles of Uzbek Traditional National clothes was a “Chapan” Robe. The “Chapan” has a very special value in tradition and culture of Uzbek people, and in daily life of people as well. It was and still is very popular among Uzbek folk of any age. All Uzbek people wear "Chapans" on celebrations and grand occasions (birthdays, weddings). There is a great variety of fabrics, patterns and designs of Uzbek “Chapans”. Offered here is a pair of Uzbek-Lakai pendants for a yurt. The items came from the Southern Uzbekistan. Circa: 1950's. The pattern of the emroidery is composed of the symbolical mysterious Lakai motifs. This piece is decorated with hand-knitted silk fringe and bright twisted tassels. I do not know anyone who can make such tassels now! The pendant with outstanding Lakai design is a wonderful demonstration of superior craftsmanship of Uzbek-Lakai embroideries. There is so much detail in the design that adds to the sophistication of the piece. The colors are very rich and extremely and carefully selected. Size: 3-19 in Organic silk and wool 100% . SIZE length-44 inch (111 cm), chest-47 inch (119 cm), from an edge of sleeve to opposite-33 in (83.8 cm). Ikat is one of the most interesting part of Central Asian Applied Arts and the most prestigious and beautiful fabric. It is also known in Persian as 'abr' for 'cloud', in Turkic as 'ipekshahi', in Arabic as 'asab', in Hindi as 'patola'. Like a cloud Uzbek Ikats display a great variety of patterns, may be composed of several combinations of materials and may be woven in both simple and complex structures. The single features shared by all of these extraordinary textiles is the complex dyeing process which is undertaken before the individual elements are arranged upon the loom. All ikat cloths have either their warps, their wefts, or, in rare cases, both warps and wefts dyed only in selective areas and only before those threads have been placed before the loom. The process of preventing the dyes from penetrating the entire warp or weft is known as 'reserving' or 'resist dye' and this produces the essential characteristics of ikat cloth. At the points where the reserved undyed areas meet the dyed sections, carefully controlled amounts of color merge with one another, randomly creating subtle, slightly blurred patterns. This dyeing technique ensures that each abr (cloud) is unique, and it is this aesthetic quality which suggests an analogy with clouds.
