Offered here is beautiful and very dramatic Suzani from Tashkent. Base is cotton fabric. Tashkent Suzani is very unique. The Tashkent Suzani used simplicity and geometric designs to create their visual effects. Often this simplicity in design created a more overwhelming effect than the detailed work of the neighbors regions. The most important element of the Tashkent Suzanis is the motif, particularly the Central Ornament that represented the moon or the Sun. In almost all Tashkent suzanis, one sees the large overwhelming round shapes. This type of suzani is named Oy Palyak, it means Lunar Firmament. Some have come to the conclusion that while most Uzbek Suzani's motifs were expressing prosperity by using flowers and vegetation the natural order of fertility, Tashkent pieces mainly gave a tribute to the Sun or Moon as Central base of fertility. The whole surface of this suzani is covered with 100% silk embroidery. This is a large roundel in the centre of the field. Around this very large central roundel are four slightly smaller medallions. The total effect is overwhelming: very few examples of this type have the same dense complexity of palette and pattern and design. It is a work of great labor, patience and skill. Excellent stitches are used here. There was a legend about the creation of Palyak suzani in Uzbekistan . Many years ago there was a magic herb called "Saxifrage" in the high mountains. It had a terrific power that could destroy even an iron sword. Saxifrage was hidden from human's eye in the high mountain valleys. Everybody wanted to know the way to find and gain its power. It is supposed that this is a map depicted on each Palyak. Palyak was a creation of Turkic craftswomen. Each woman passed the story of her husband about the Saxifrage in her needle-work. The Palyak map was passed down from generation to generation and it was hung above the couch in a bedchamber and only members of a family could see it. The mountain with Saxifrage was guarded by two snakes (that is why roundels of palyaks are surrounded with two lines). And only the bravest and strongest man could get that magic grass. That man who owned the flower of the grass could overcome any obstacles and troubles. This grass is also believed to have wonderful power in the present days. One of the reasons of it is that the decoction and tinctures prepared from it have a subversive power indeed. Nowadays, legends and stories about Saxifrage are forgotten and palyaks are embroidered with other reasons. But you may still meet old women in the villages situated in the high mountains, who will never let you in the room with a Palyak is hung, as they are afraid to discover the secret of their husbands and fathers. Uzbek Chapan, made of handmade silk-cotton striped fabric 'becasan'. Organic material. Lined with natural cotton. Age: 50 years. Size: length-41 in, chest-46 in, from one sleeve to another-44 in. Very good vintage condition. Traditional garment for Uzbeks and Tajiks more than 200 years. Unisex. The outer layer is the strong and mild silk with a smooth and iridescent surface. Striped fabrics such as the "abr" (ikat) pattern created by means of a coloured thread base were still wide-spread, and the warpers' art reached its peack during the early 20th century. The most attractive thing in Uzbek striped fabrics is the beauty of their colour and the pure dyes which are applied in delicate combinations. The colouring is driven to the utmost stress, either resorting to shatp contrasts or delicate harmony. In past times, striped fabrics were very popular in all regions of Central Asia. Striped robe is original symbol of all Uzbek men. Those fabrics were made a lot and with different patterns in Fergana. Big attention was paid to colours and colour combinations and to the width of strips. Most popular silk and half-silk bekasabs were those with colour combinations of yellow, pink and violet colours of the same width and in soft non-contrast shades. People of Fergana, Margilan and Kokand preferred yellow colour with combinations of violet and pink. Namangan robes were marked with combinations of green with red and blue. Still, despite of verities of Fergana colours, robes were made in strict order. Latter was concentrated in bekasabs with green and blue shades, known as moch rang. Chapans, made of bekasab was popular all over Uzbekistan. First Chapans were made for boys at sannattoy, i.e. circumcision, later for kuev toon-wedding. After wedding it was worn in the house as a daily cloth.

Ikat is one of the most interesting part of Central Asian Applied Arts and the most prestigious and beautiful fabric. It is also known in Persian as 'abr' for 'cloud', in Turkic as 'ipekshahi', in Arabic as 'asab', in Hindi as 'patola'. Like a cloud Uzbek Ikats display a great variety of patterns, may be composed of several combinations of materials and may be woven in both simple and complex structures. The single features shared by all of these extraordinary textiles is the complex dyeing process which is undertaken before the individual elements are arranged upon the loom. All ikat cloths have either their warps, their wefts, or, in rare cases, both warps and wefts dyed only in selective areas and only before those threads have been placed before the loom. The process of preventing the dyes from penetrating the entire warp or weft is known as 'reserving' or 'resist dye' and this produces the essential characteristics of ikat cloth. At the points where the reserved undyed areas meet the dyed sections, carefully controlled amounts of color merge with one another, randomly creating subtle, slightly blurred patterns. This dyeing technique ensures that each abr (cloud) is unique, and it is this aesthetic quality which suggests an analogy with clouds.

Delivery method

We ship all the parcels from Ukraine (from our logistics centers in Kyiv and Chernivtsi) via international services (FedEx, UPS) in two stages. 

First a parcel is sent by express delivery service to Europe, and then, it is shipped by air mail to the United States, Canada or Europe. 

You can see the movement of the parcel by a tracking number only in the second stage - 4-6 days after sending your order from our center. We estimate the delivery time to 12-18 days.

Express delivery is available only on individual request. Please contact us if you need Express delivery before placing an order so we can update shipping options.
