This ceramic bat sculpture has such an unusual color because it was wood fired at high temperature in a unique Japanese kiln called Sasukenei. SASUKENEI is a smokeless wood-fired ceramic kiln designed and built by Japanese master ceramicist Masakazu Kusakabe in 2015 in the village of Cerdeira, Portugal. It's unique dual-chamber design with a large chimney ensures efficient combustion, low smoke levels and rapid temperature attainment of up to 1300 degrees Celsius (24-36 hours), and creates particularly dramatic wood ash firing and glaze effects on finished pieces. The bat will have it's own meaning and symbolism for everyone. For me, it is a symbol of calmness and strength, wisdom and cunning. This mysterious nocturnal predator has long been perceived as a guide to the world of mystical knowledge and spirits. That's why bats are so unusual. They simultaneously attract attention and repel with their appearance.  Measurements: height -62mm, width - 72 mm.This ceramic bat figurine is made by me exclusively by hand from natural fireclay. A set of two unique ceramic sculptures, entirely handmade from natural clay, designed for lovers of the Gong fu Cha tea ceremony. If you look closely, the monkey holds a teapot and the giraffe keeps him company. Together they look very cute, but you can use them separately. Also on the giraffe's back you can see a small bird watching the whole event. These truly unique miniature sculptures are made with attention to detail. After being created and dried, the monkey natural figurine was fired in an electric kiln at 1050 degrees Celsius. But giraffe went through a more difficult path. It was fired in a Japanese wood-fired kiln called sasukenei. The small piggy figurine measures : 1.14 in tall, width 0.87 in (top view), length 1.81 in. I made a series of inexpensive ceramic figurines from red clay. I liked this clay because after firing the miniature sculpture acquires an interesting color and the texture is visible. These small stones on the surface add charm and primitiveness. I also wanted to make the figurine simple, not ideal, as if it was carved by water, made by nature, as if the figurine was found in the desert in the sand. I hope I succeeded. When you stroke this miniature sculpture, you will feel it's roughness. This is a very cool tactile sensation. You will understand what I am talking about when the figurine is in your hands. This is my representation of a backyard cat who is always getting into trouble, involved in all the local events. If you look closely, he has a band-aid sticker on his right cheek. And in his paws he holds his prey - a fish caught with his own teeth in the nearest stream. This unique figurine is made of natural fireclay. On the photo you can see small grains of sand, they are also felt when stroking.  The cat likes to drink tea, over time when watering it with tea it will darken (the degree depends on the intensity of watering and the type of tea).
