The absence of hands meant that the woman behind her husband would not do the hard work and the husband would carry her in his arms. Each collar personified a certain quality that the chosen one would have. Their number must be odd. Tying a collar to a doll, the girl thought of a desired character trait on it, for example, kindness, honesty, nobility, wisdom, dignity.
