Member of the Permanent Delegation of Ukraine to PACE from December 25, 2014 to December 22, 2016. Former soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, captain of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Navigator-operator of the Mi-24 helicopter of the 3rd separate regiment of army aviation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Savchenko gained notoriety after she ended up in a Russian pre-trial detention center under unclear circumstances. Convicted by the Donetsk City Court of the Rostov Region “for involvement in the murder of journalists of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company” on June 17, 2014 near Luhansk and sentenced to 22 years in prison. Pardoned by decree of the President of the Russian Federation of May 25, 2016. She was recognized by human rights organizations as a political prisoner in 2015 and 2016. From December 25, 2014 to December 22, 2016 she was a member of the Permanent Delegation of Ukraine to PACE.
