Ukraine Coin 2009, Coin International Year of Astronomy, Collectible Coin, Nickel Silver Coin Dedicated to the International Year of Astronomy, which the UN declared in 2009. Four hundred years ago, Galileo Galilei first used a telescope to study the objects of the universe. A well-known Ukrainian astronomer who is proud of Ukraine is Yuri Drohobych (Kotermak, c. 1450 - 1494) - encyclopedist, humanist thinker. He was born and raised in Drohobych. From 1481 to 1482 he was rector of the University of Bologna. His work "Prognostic assessment of the current 1483" is the first printed book by a Ukrainian author. On the obverse of the coin are placed: the small State Emblem of Ukraine, the inscription in a semicircle NATIONAL BANK OF UKRAINE (above); a composition symbolizing space: on the left Urania is the patroness of astronomy, one of the nine muses of ancient Greek mythology, and stellar space with a fragment of the scheme of motion of the planets of the solar system; below - the year of coinage 2009 and the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine, on a stylized scroll denomination - 5 UAH. On the reverse of the coin there is a portrait of Yuri Drohobych (right), under which the years of his life - approx. 1450/1494, the logo of the International Year of Astronomy (left), under which the inscription - INTERNATIONAL / YEAR / ASTRONOMY, below - artifacts of space explorers.
