The most significant type of embroidery is the Suzani - lavishly embroidered panel used as a wall decoration or a bedcover. Large surfaces of the cloth were typically covered with embroidery and only small areas of background remained free. The brilliant colors of the silk and the use of natural motifs created a field of magnificent, almost iridescent flowering forms enhanced by the contrasting texture of the different types of stitching.
