What is not allowed to do around Leather!

In my earlier post in June I talked about what care is appropriate around leather, and what each one of us who likes to have beautiful leather handbags in our possession needs to know when it is time to preserve your leather bag beauty. But besides knowing what we need to do, I thought it would be great to collect a checklist of things we better never do with our leather bags, clutches or backpacks.

How many times in your experience you had thought “Oops! I should have thought about what I’m about to do before I did it”? But so many times the good thought comes after the fact. I prepared for you the list of what not to do with your charming purse or well-organized briefcase when the time comes for cleaning and maintenance of it. One thing for sure! Do not use it as a bucket to collect rainwater, just kidding. But really you should try to avoid these methods and tools with your leather handbag:

Never do it to your leather purse!

The way to maintain your leather bag is to be proactive and take your handbag by your caring hands very seriously.

1. Never use baby wipes to clean the stains on your leather bags

2. Don’t try vinegar or any other ‘home remedy’ which purpose is to clean the hardwood floors

3. Don’t place your leather handbag in the direct sun, unless you want the color of your handbag to fade and make the leather to dry

4. Don’t keep your handbag near the stove or BBQ where the heat or smoke could damage your lovely leather companion, you couldn’t leave the house without

5. Avoid holding your leather clutch or handbag after you’ve just apply the hand lotion for your hands, it will lead to the grease stains

6. If you happen to be not careful and had a running pen inside your leather purse that leads to having ink stains on your bag, don’t try to remove them yourself

7. When you are changing your purse to another one, never leave the bag shuffled in the back of your closet. Such an act leave your leather bag in unrecognizable shape

8. Do not put leather nags in a tightly sealed, plastic bag

9. Should avoid using the water on grease stains

10. Want to mix and match? Do it with your accessories in your outfit, but not with different types of leather cleaning products – don’t apply a general leather cleaner to suede or nubuck interior

11. Unless you aim in stretching your leather bag into a weirdly looking lumpy bag, don’t squeeze the pillow inside your bag

12. Never put a bag that become wet in the dark place to dry. That could cause a mold and become an issue that will cause weakness.
